The Golden Age of Flight was characterized by great advances in technology that led to increased popular acceptance of flying by the population as a whole. The shift from wood and fabric biplanes to metal monoplanes, together with more powerful engines, made airplanes more reliable and safer.

About this gallery

The Golden Age featured some of the greats of aviation history: Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, Jimmy Doolittle, Wiley Post, and more. The gallery includes several large scale-model aircraft, meticulously built by Museum volunteers in our Model Shop.
