Young Women’s STEM Leadership Initiative
YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The Museum is partnering with DISD’s Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School and Grand Prairie’s Young Women’s Leadership Academy at Arnold to provide students a multi-tiered youth volunteer program. The youth volunteer program enables young women to develop their leadership and mentoring skills while building confidence and self-esteem. Students may begin the program in the 8th grade and upon reaching the Celestial Scientist tier become eligible for paid internships during spring break and summer.

Youth Volunteer Program?

  • Broaden your knowledge of STEM through the introduction to aviation and space
  • Develop leadership skills and build confidence
  • Strengthen your resume
  • Facilitate or lead hands-on STEM-based activities at the Museum or in the community
  • Become a mentor to other girls starting the in the Museum’s Four-Tier Volunteer Program
  • Receive letters of recommendation
  • Be eligible for paid Museum Internships
  • Start as early as 8th grade

The Four Volunteer Tier Levels

  • 0-15 hours
  • Assist with in-house events
  • Eligible to become a Little Sister and be mentored by a Super Sonic-Big Sister

  • 16-30 hours
  • Assist with in-house events
  • Assist with community outreach programs

  • 31-50 hours
  • Assist with in-house events
  • Assist with community outreach programs
  • Assist birthday party educational programming
  • Eligible to become a Big Sister-Mentor for Dreamers coming into the program

Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School and Young Women’s Leadership Academy at Bill Arnold are schools within the Young Women’s Preparatory Network with a focus on leadership, college readiness, and health and wellness.
